Dispute
or Business Letter Dear Justice Black: I am writing today because
I am in a very distressing and potentially life-threatening position.
On November 00, 0000, you re-instated my Restraining
Order against Joe Smith. However,
eight days after the Order went into effect Mr. Smith resorted to his usual
tactics of following me, calling me on the telephone apprising me of my every
move, and threatening my life. My situation worsens with each new day. I have been followed on foot, by car, and by bicycle. Mr. Smith remains fearless; the Restraining Order appears to be of no consequence. I have called the police for protection and by the time they arrive, most often long after the event, (one time, it was a full 24 hours later), my would-be assailant is long gone. Detective Brown promised that the instant I got the Restraining Order renewed he would get an Aggravated Stalking Order issued against Mr. Smith. So far, this has been an empty promise. In fact, I am hard-pressed to get a return call from this Detective even after I call to report that Mr. Smith is breaking the Order. (He has broken the Order at least twice since you reinstated it in November and three times prior to the reinstatement.) Dear Sir, I am writing you as a last resort. I live in perpetual fear afraid Joe Smith will make good on his numerous promises to kill me. I am afraid when I step out of my front door, when I drive my car, when I walk down the street, when I am in the company of friends, and when I am alone. My life has become a harrowing nightmare and the fear is consuming me. Consequently, I am struggling in my business dealings, my personal friendships, and any and all dealings with others. Prior to this horror I was an amiable, friendly chap, eager to make the acquaintance of others. Since Joe Smith has come into my life all that has changed. I live in an all-consuming fear that until this happened to me, I could never have begun to imagine. Obviously, the Restraining Order offers no fear of repercussion to Mr. Smith. t It would seem that Mr. Smith requires a more strenuous condemnation from the law. I plead your assistance in issuing an Aggravated Stalking Order against Joe Smith. I understand, sir, the demands upon your time are great; however, I beseech Your Honor's expeditious attention in this regard. Until so, I will remain in constant fear.
Respectfully yours,
